8-2, 8-4, 8-5 - The latest date for passing in your Life is a Cookbook (Emotion Recipe and Personal Choice Recipe) is Thursday, October 19

By October 17, all Grade 8 students need to have a novel chosen for Independent Reading. It will be brought to class each day. Once finished, a new one will be selected. On-going reading logs and conferences will take place with ALL students. 

Home Reading - Grade 8 students should be reading outside of class. The more you read, the better you write:) Parent/guardians should encourage them to read at least 40 pages/week.

         Chapter 1 - Focus on Contrasts and Contradictions (Old Charlie vs. Newcharlie)

         Chapter 2 - Focus on Memory Moments and Words of the Wiser

         Chapter 3 - Comprehension Questions

         Assessment on Chapters 1-3 - Focus on Characters, Setting, Conflict, POV, and Symbolism

        Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 - Comprehension Questions

        Chapter 6 - Comprehension Grid

Students in 8-1 and 8-3 (Integrated Classes) will start a Global Citizen Unit.

        Quick look at World Population numbers and factors influencing growth

        Written response to global population videos - focus on main messages

       Table Talk Activity - Global Issues - What are they? Examples? Which one is most concerning and why? (Assessed for participation and ability to create an argument and offer support for it)

       Creating a definition for a "global citizen" - Table Talk Activity (Assessed for participation and following of directions)
